And despite the treaties and commitments contracted afterwards, has failed to return it to Portugal, its legitimate and unquestionable owner, 600 Kms2 of Alentejan soil illegally integrated into Spain Taking the opportunity of this event, the "Forum Olivença" wants to remind the Spaniards and the Portuguese of this intolerable scandal and the cause for discord in the relations between the two (Iberian) peninsula countries. The Spanish State occupied Olivença and undertook a violent Spanish colonisation and elimination of the native Portuguese. We, this historic day, symbolically, have decided to bring it to Portuguese memory in the Portuguese capital, this Spanish happening, changing the name of "Spain Square" to "Olivença Square". The occupation of Olivença is an affront and insult that the Portuguese cannot forget and an enormous shameful act that honourable Spaniards should not tolerate!
